Biography

A multiple award winning graphic artist and web designer, Gabrielle Miller has worked for Angelo State University’s Communication and Marketing Office for five years. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M Kingsville), Miller earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1988. 

From 1989–2008, she worked in advertising design and management for the San Angelo Standard-Times, a daily newspaper then owned by Scripps Newspaper, where in addition to design, she excelled on the technical side, solving daily problems with press production. 

Miller joined the staff of McLaughlin Advertising, a highly regarded San Angelo firm, where she worked for three years before joining the staff of Angelo State University.

During her career, she has won numerous awards including Best of Show at the National Newspaper Association ACME Awards and Best of Show three years in a row at the local American Advertising Federation ADDYs. She won a Gold for poster design at the district level of CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education), a leader in providing services in the areas of higher education alumni relations, communications and philanthropy.

Miller’s favorite typeface is Garamond Condensed because it flows beautifully. Her second favorite is Helvetica Neue Extended because it is so versatile. Her favorite computer to work on is an Apple Macintosh.

A Wisconsin native who has been a Texas resident since high school, Miller is a fan of the arts and open to relocation to any city where the arts are nurtured and thriving. Her hobbies include painting, an outlet for her creativity, movies and rock and roll. Her favorite film about type is “Helvetica.” Other favorites include those about the news business, such as “His Girl Friday” and “Morning Glory.” 

Favorite artists, among many others, are Monet, Edward Hopper, Elizabeth Starnes, Mejo Okon, Shelby Keefe, Piet Mondrian, Caravaggio and Frank Lloyd Wright.
